Ellen DeGeneres Outed ...
As Moon Property Owner
Popular
comedian, talk show host announces she owns acreage in Sea of
Tranquility
NEW YORK /Lunar Journal/
— Ellen DeGeneres
has outed herself. Again.
The popular comedian, who made a
major splash this year as the voice of "Dory" in the
popular motion picture "Finding Nemo," made
headlines in 1997 when she announced that she is gay, and
later became the first
openly gay lead character on television.
This time around, DeGeneres didn't
raise quite the same amount of furor when she announced on Tuesday
(2 December) that she is the proud owner of property on the Moon.
Taking a moment out of her nationally
syndicated variety program, "The
Ellen Show," DeGeneres displayed her Lunar deed and a
photograph of her property in the legendary Sea
of Tranquility region, which she had obtained from the
Lunar Republic Society's real estate agency, The
Lunar Registry. The sales benefit a planned commercial mission
to the Moon, which is expected to launch by the end of the decade.
More than 400,000 people from around
the world have become lunar land owners as part of the program.
"I'm going to have to
build," DeGeneres told her audience. "I want to have a
deck so I can see what's around me."
She later quipped, "If the
property values go up, I may sell."
A spokesperson for The Lunar Registry
confirmed that DeGeneres is registered as the owner of property in
the Sea of Tranquility region, but would not disclose the exact
location of the acreage.
"As a rule, we respect the
privacy of our property owners," said Michelle Ricci, a
customer service manager for the firm. "However, since Ellen made
the announcement herself, we will confirm that she does currently
own a prime parcel in the Tranquility basin."
The property is reportedly located
near the site where Apollo 11, the first manned Lunar mission,
landed in 1969.
